My Holiday Gift to You: Southpark's The Spirit of Christmas

Well, it's that time of the year again, when the joys of the holiday season are synonymous with standing in line, getting trampled while trying to purchase gifts, and getting hugged tightly by relatives whom you hardly know who enjoy sharing stories about how you whizzed yourself when you were six.

Good times.

There are several films out there that try to show what the Holidays, and especially Christmas are really all about, but of all of them, I think this one says it best...my personal favorite:

South Park's The Spirit of Christmas.
Just click play.

Warning: this is extremely offensive. Major cusswords. In fact, if you're not offended, there's something seriously wrong with you. However, this is EARLY Southpark, one of the original cartoons. This is some priceless stuff right here. If you are offended by religious humor and major cursing, please don't press play and then get pissed off at me. You have been warned.

Enjoy, and have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Groovy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year, and any other day during this Holiday Season.

How's THAT for Xmas spirit?

Where's the Music?

It shall return. Soon.
I'm having trouble with my ftp client and getting tunes up on my server is a bitch right now...
I'm hoping to start getting tunes up on the site again this week.
There are quite a bit through it, though, so check through the archives.

SantaCON 2006

Ever wanted to be Santa but just didn't have the credentials? Figured that a couple of misdemeanors and a lust for booze would keep you from making the cut? Do you prefer stripper poles instead of the North Pole (gotta quote the site on that one) but like giving gifts to kids?
Do you just want an excuse to roam NYC with 500 guys dressed like Santa, giving gifts to kids and stopping in at bars to get wasted in the process for a day?

Then go to SantaCON.com and be Santa for the day. A really bizarre Santa, but Santa nevertheless.

This is hilarious. The fun begins this Saturday, December 16th.

Jessamin Swearingen: Essays on the Emergence of Punk In America

Every now and then I do searches for my friends or myself in all of our various forms (online tags/nicknames, real names, etc) and I came across a much older site with some essays composed by one of my best friends, Jessamin, titled, We Created It, Let's Take It Over: The Emergence of Punk in America. I had read them before, but seeing them again really made me so proud of my friend.

Jessamin is not only a web-designing wizard, she is also a teacher and an expert on music history; specifically, that era of the late 60's early 70's that found the Punk wave hitting America right between the eyes.

Her essays have been used in such books as Blondie, From Punk to Present, by Allan Metz. She is a fascinating, wonderful person to talk to - always opinionated and able to cross reference musical genres and eras in an effort to make a point or answer a question.

If you are interested in reading informative essays about Blondie, The NY Dolls, Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, and the bands and people that were the first wave the Punk scene and movement in America as well as the relationship to the British punk wave with bands like The Sex Pistols, then please check her writing out.

2nd Annual Holiday Artists Sale At SODA Bar in Brooklyn

DSCN0155

My friend Mike puts together local artist's craft fairs about twice a year - and during the winter, he has them at the SODA bar, at 629 Vanderbilt Ave. in Brooklyn. They are really great - they always have crafts by people who are not just talented craftsters, but they are also local artists from the New York area who do a different spin on their work.

The dates are December 14th - 17th; weekdays after 7:30 and weekends 2-8. A pdf version of the flyer is HERE.

Mike n' Karen

For example, my friends Mike and Karen work as a team. He creates amazing collages that are mind-blowing and all done by hand (not photoshopped), but they are so perfect they look photoshopped, but better, because even high tech programs sometimes miss that personal touch. Then he scans the collage and resizes the images for various articles of jewelry. Then Karen comes into the picture, beading and making gorgeous items that include the artwork done by Mike.

High Quality.

Fancy Her Wares?

The results are breathtaking. I have a beltbuckle with Mike's awesome artistry, and a pair of earrings that are miniature prints of his collage with beautiful beadwork done by Karen. They also sell cufflinks, necklaces, and bracelets. You can also talk to Mike about purchasing the collages themselves to mount on your wall.

At this holiday craft fair you will find other crafters as well who ROCK - like Kerrigan Kessler of KTK Handbags...and you'll find many, many others. It's really easy to get to, in a groovy part of Prospect Heights.

Enjoy!
